An incomplete probable copper-alloy tanged chisel, or trunnion tool, likely dating to the Middle Bronze Age (c.1500-1150 cal BC). It has a light green-grey patina. It probably belongs to the metalworking tradition phase VIII - IX, which corresponds to Needham's (1996) Period 5; circa 1500-1150 cal. BC. In profile, you can clearly see where it has been heavily used on one edge. It is sub-rectangular in plan with the trunnions, projecting out 11.5mm and 6.5mm from the sides. However, it is missing its butt end, as there is a post-depositional break just above th…

A sherd of 'Trevisker Ware' or Grooved Ware pottery dating from the Neolithic - Middle Bronze Age (c.1600-1200 BC). The sherd is sub-rectangular in form and has been broken into two pieces. The fabric is gabbroic (clay that weathers over the gabbro stone on the Lizard) with inclusions of pale feldspar, dark augite and mica. The colour of the fabric is a light brown interior to more burnt exterior suggesting it has been fired at a high temperature.  Measurements: length 37.16mm, width 27.36mm, thickness 10.79mm, weight 10.94 grams. It is similar to databas…

A worked ground and polished axehead, of a black hue, of probable Bronze Age date. Found with items possibly of the Bronze Age period, but its dating in relation to these finds could not be verified, as it was an historical find, once part of the Zennor Wayside museum's collections, and so, its exact geospatial provenance is unknown. The axehead is rectangular in shape with a ground flat bladed edge. The sides have been ground and polished flat and smooth. It appears a lot of effort has been applied in the production of this tool. The end has been rounded o…

Roughout of a Bronze Age flanged axehead. It has a dark bown-black patina (80%), and in parts, a mid blue-patina (20%), and seems to be suffering from Bronze Disease. It is an object that to its left side looks relatively intact, but to its right side, has noticeable pocking, indicative of where water entered the mould during casting, and so the axehead is misformed. Despite its clear miscasting, its form is still distinguishable. It is particularly interesting that such a miscast item should survive, considering most miscast metalwork would have been re-melted, and cast again. …

An incomplete copper alloy socketed axehead dating to the Late Bronze Age (c. 1300-700 BC). The remains of the object consist of the blade edge and part of the body, which terminates in an uneven , diagonal, worn break leaving part of the socketed interior visible. The break is slightly higher on one side of the axehead than the other, thus the tapered sides of the body of the axehead are visible. The blade edge is curved but very worn. The axehead moslty has a green patina with patches of light grey corrosion product on the patina - this is typical of high lead content…

The surviving section comprises of the cutting edge, now highly abraded, and blade, with the mouth, loop and collar all lost to an abraded, but patinated asymmetric break. One of the faces has impacted damage, forcing the face into the socket and possibly suggests deliberate damage. The axehead is broadly trapezoidal in plan measuring 71.64mm in length and expanding from a 36.87mm width at a worn break to 47.61mm width at the cutting edge.
