A contemporary copy of a gold Roman solidus of Leo I dating to the period AD 457-474. VICTORIA AVGGGS reverse type, mint of Constantinopole. This coin is under weight compared to other examples recorded, and the metal appears to have been gilded and is either copper alloy or a heavily alloyed gold. The coin is in very good condition with little wear. c.f. RIC X 605

Two joining fragments of a French or English (late 6th / early 7th c.) gold-plated contemporary forgery of a Visigothic 'Kingdom of Toulouse' pseudo-imperial solidus of the late 5th century AD copying a solidus of Severus III (461-5) from Ravenna. Probably minted in Toulouse or Narbonne.

The coin is pierced for suspension. Obv. Emperor right, Rev. Standing Emperor, foot on human-headed serpent
