A cut halfpenny from the reign of Henry III (AD 1216-1272). The coin was a voided long cross penny. The 'X' on the obverse inscription conforms with Fig.4 in North 1994 pg225, whilst the 'R' conforms with Fig.17, which would likely make the coin Class 5c, dating to AD 1251-1272. See North 1994 pg.227 no.993 for a similar coin. The reverse inscription is incomplete, but it seems as if the coin was minted by a Henri. The only Henri who is recorded as minting long cross Class 5c coins was Henri of London, thus suggesting that the coin was minted in London. Obverse descrip…
