An incomplete early-medieval silver penny of Ecgberht of Wessex (802-39), Portrait/Dorob C type (c.AD828-39; North 573), moneyer uncertain. Ref: North 1994: 118. Only the centre of the coin survives, the outer circle now missing. The uneven nature of the break suggests that this was not deliberately shaped but cracked around the inner circle, a weak point, after which the coin broke apart.
