Initial mark a lis. First coinage, struck 1509-26. North no. 1776. The coin appears to have been pierced at the base of the throne (which equates to the right of the shield on the reverse).

The coin is pierced at 11 o’clock on the obverse.
Some pierced/modified coins can come within the remits of Treasure Act 1996, including all finds of pierced silver or gold coins up to AD 1180 and some thereafter depending upon the nature of the piercing. Pierced medieval and later silver coins are however fairly common single finds and many are also known from hoards.
