Medival Burgandian silver double patard of Charles the Bold (Duke of Burgundy, AD 1467-1477) dated to AD 1467-1477. In 1469, following an agreement made between Edward IV and Charles the Bold, these coins were made legal tender in England and remained so for over 60 years afterwards; they crop up in hoards (in steadily declining numbers) until well into Henry VIII's reign. A post medieval cast copper-alloy hooked strap fitting from a sword or baldric belt. The plate is convex with a collared and knopped terminal with a single rivet hole retaining an iron rivet; the other end has a collar and a rearward-facing hook with a D-shaped cross section. There is a further copper-alloy rivet present on the underside of the fitting at the juncture of the hook and plate; this would have attached a separate copper-alloy sheet to the underside of the fitting, which is missing.
