Robertson 2000, 80 no. 380:
""Crock of Roman Coins found at Upwood Farm, near Handley
A labouring man brought in to Mr. Carter the Silversmith today, 7th Augst. 1877, a quantity of Roman Coins. Frampton, the man, says that during the past week, whilst digging in an allotment garden near the Turnpike Road at Handley, he turned up with the prong some small pieces of broken pottery and several of the coins loose in the soil - he further noticed that these coins were only found over a very limited space of ground not more than two yards in area. This induced him to dig deeper over this spot, and he was shortly rewarded by finding rather more than a foot below the surface, a broken crock filled with rather more than 400 Roman Denarii.
The top of the vessel had been broken away and the top layer of coins scattered through the soil.
The place where this discovery was made is about a mile and a half N. of the old Roman highway from Old Sarum to Dorchester." -Ms. Notebook of Dr. Blackmore
Quoted in NC, 1950, 311
Gen. A.H.L.F. Pitt Rivers, Excavations in Bokerly Dyke and Wansdyke (1888-91), 279, copied Dr. Blackmore's account, adding that the discovery was made "in the village of Denland, 2000 yards by road to the north of the cross roads at Handley
in the garden of the house nearest to Handley, on the east side of the road, beneath the farm of Upwood, 2 miles, less 250 yards, north-west of the nearest spot on the Roman road from Sarum to Badbury Rings."
Dr. Blackmore received 464 coins from the hoard, while 175 additional coins passed into other hands, making a total of 639. Of these 639, Dr. Blackmore listed 571, all but one being den. Subsequently Anne S. Robertson in NC, 1950, 311-15, listed the 440 coins in Dorset County Museum, Dorchester, all that now survive of Dr. Blackmore's portion.

Latest recorded dated coin AD 194-5 but also coin of Julia Domna. Likely to be early in reign. The summary here gives the listing of Robertson (1950) only but the listing given from Dr. Blackmore seems to fit quite well with this, suggesting broadly accurate identifications.
