An incomplete copper alloy Roman disc brooch from the second century, circa AD 80 - 250. It is a British plate brooch, of enamelled flat disc type. The brooch has a disc of reserved metal at the centre, surrounded by a sunburst or star design of nine arms, each with a rounded end. This is recessed for enamel which is missing. Five of the points between the arms, in the surrounding relief field, have a very small recessed pellet at the tip of the point. The field is surrounded by a recessed border filled with blue enamel and a border in relief beyond that. Originally, the front of the brooch would have been flat with all the enamel surviving.

The reverse is undecorated and is missing the pin. The single lug hinge and the remains of the catchplate survive. The brooch has a smooth grey green patina. See Hattat's Visual Catalouge, page 346, figure 205, number 1408 for a similar brooch.
