An incomplete very worn copper-alloy terret or rein ring Iron Age and circa 1st century in date. Only the lower half of this terret, the bar and fragments of the loop, survives. It measures c50mm in width and c23mm in surviving height. The bar is rectangular in shape and flat on both faces there are then rounded transverse ridges where the bar joins the loop. The fragments of the loop are oval in cross-section and tapering towards their incomplete terminals, there is no sign of any mouldings, either lips, knobs or wings on the sides so this may be a simple terret (Davies 1996, 71). Interestingly most of the wear occurs on one inner curve where the bar meets the side, this is therefore a heavily used terret and the wear was presumably caused by the rubbing of the reins through the loop whilst in use.
