An incomplete copper-alloy strap end of medieval date, c.AD 1250 - 1350. The strap end has a circular, openwork frame with a double collared acorn-style terminal projecting to one side. An integral forked spacer extends from the opposite side of the frame. One arm of the spacer tapers to a blunted point while the other terminates in a worn break. A single sheet plate also remains, though spate from the frame. The plate is sub-rectangular with a rounded portion mirroring the shape of the frame. Two rivet holes are present at the straight edge of the plate.
The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The frame is 53.8mm long, 20.6mm wide, 4.2mm thick. The plate is 39.6mm long, 19.8mm wide, 0.9mm thick. It weighs 8.9g.
Similar strap end found at excavations in London are illustrated in Egan & Pritchard (2002, p.141, fig.92). They are dated to Ceramic Phase 9 (c.1250 to c.1350).
