An incomplete Roman copper alloy Colchester derivative, Polden Hill brooch, dating to the period AD 50 -150. Most of the pin and the lower part of the bow & catchplate are missing. There is a pierced lug (which has also loss to the top) at the head of the bow in which the chord is located; the wings are semi-circular in cross section with end caps, they are decorated to the front with 2 transverse grooves either side of the bow. The copper alloy spring is complete and has 10 coils. The bow has a longitudinal ridge at the centre of the outer face, and has a convex undecorated underside, but has surface loss to the top and sides, so any other decoration there may have been is no longer visible.
The surviving portion measures 17.8mm in length by 20.0mm wide, and weighs 3.67g.
