A cast lead spindle whorl, of Walton Rogers form A2, dating from the Early Medieval period, about AD 700 - 850. It has two flat faces of uneven size, and rounded sides. There is a central, circular perforation of internal diameter 7.9mm. The whorl has a smooth light grey patina. It is 20.6mm in diameter and 10mm thick. It weighs 22.04g. Walton Rogers suggests that form A2 whorls date from AD 700 - 1100, and that a central perforation of 6-9mm can indicate an Early to mid-Saxon date.
