An incomplete copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester Derivative double lug type, dating to AD 43-100. The head has two wings with a C-shaped profile; they house a copper-alloy spring, which is coiled around an iron axis bar. The axis bar and a fragment of the chord are held by a double lug at the centre of the back of the head. The front face of the wings have a transverse groove at the outer end. The bow is oval in cross-section and tapers towards the broken foot. The spring is moderately worn and stained by iron corrosion products. The surfaces are abraded.
As Mackreth (2011, Vol. 2, plate, 34, p. 37, nos. 1365, 1376).
