An incomplete medieval silver Scottish groat of Robert III (AD1390-1406), heavy coinage (1390-1403), mint: Edinburgh (Spink S5164). Ref: Spink 2003: 28.

The coin is broken, missing between around 30-40% of the coin. The break is rough and removes the (from obverse) the edge and part of the field from an area stretch between about 2 o'clock and 7 o'clock.   

Obverse description: Crowned bust facing within a tressure of seven arches with three pellets at each cusp.

Obverse inscription: +RO[BERTVS DEI GRA] REX SCOTORVM.

Reverse description: Long cross dividing the legend with three pellets in each quarter.

Reverse inscription: DNS [PTECTOR MS L]IBATOR MS, outer legend: VILL A E[D I]NBV RGH inner legend with double saltire stop.
