A heavy copper alloy Medieval thimble dating from about AD 1400 - 1530. It has a circumferential plain basal band and a continuous left hand spiral of circular, probably drilled pits covering the sides and most of the crown. Left hand spirals predominated until AD 1530 (Read, 2018, page 25). The apex is tonsured. The thimble has fairly straight sides and a domed top. It is 21.5mm high, 19.9mm diameter at the base and 1.8mm thick. It weighs 13.05g. There is a crack in the rim, and it has a grey green patina. Compare examples on page 27 of Read (2018) Metal Sewing-Thimbles Found in Britain. It was probably made in Nuremberg.
