A slightly squashed medieval (1200-1500) gold finger-ring with a blue-coloured gemstone setting (perhaps sapphire); the hoop has detached from the bezel to one side.
The bezel is asymmetrical and hexagonal in shape, with alternating short and long edges to give a more general triangular shape. It is sheet gold and apparently formed around the irregular shape of the uncut stone within. The sides angle both upwards and downwards from a central ridge running around the outside of the bezel. It stands 4.2mm in height with the stone being apparently quite thin and perhaps originally on a fixant base (making it higher within the bezel), which has now been lost.
The hoop has a lozengiform cross-section where it joins the bezel (2.6x2.3mm) which narrows to 1.8x1.4mm at the back of the hoop. There is a patch of recent damage to the hoop.
The finger-ring measures 26.6mm in length, 18.8mm in width and 9.2mm in depth (at the bezel); it weighs 2.26g.
Notes:
A similar finger-ring with gemstone (HAMP-2A4252 / 2019T446) is dated to the 13th-15th centuries.
