An incomplete copper-alloy harness pendant of medieval date, AD 1300 - 1400. The pendant is shield shaped with the remains of an integral suspension loop projecting centrally from the upper edge. The loop is broken and worn. The pendant is heraldic featuring a leopard passant left. The leopard is depicted in blue enamel with five white sub-circular enamelled spots. The reverse of the pendant is flat and undecorated.
The metal has a dark green patina and is worn. The pendant is 40.6mm long, 27.6mm wide, 2.9mm thick and weighs 12.5g.
Harness pendants are generally dated from the twelfth to the fourteenth century, with enamelled and heraldic types predominating in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries (Griffiths 1995, p.62).
