A copper-alloy Roman brooch of the Colchester derivative double lug type, dating to AD 43-100. The head has two C-shaped cross-sectioned wings and an incomplete double lug at the centre of its back.The head still retains large part of the spring system with the chord passing through the upper lug and the axis-bar in the lower one; an incomplete spring is still coiled around the axis-bar. The bow is semi-oval in cross-section and quite straight in profile, although the foot is slightly bent due to post deposition damages; it tapers towards the break. The front face of the bow has a longitudinal central ridge, which is flanked by two line of punched dashes; there are further faint grooves near the edge of the bow.
