A flat gilded copper alloy livery button, 27.9mm in diameter, depicting the arms of the Earl of Malmsbury; a Prussian eagle within a border with illegible legend, crowned by an Earl's coronet. Beneath this is a small device indicating membership of the order of the bath.
Notes:
The Earl of Malmesbury is a title created in 1800 for the diplomat James Harris, 1st Baron Malmesbury, who died in 1820 and was a Knight of the Order of the Bath. The style of this button is consistent with an early 19th century date.
