Three lead byconical spindle whorls of unknown (Roman to Post Medieval) date.
Spindle Whorl (from left to right) A, B and C appear plain, although A may have traces of pattern on its surface.
Spindly Whorl B has a perforation present on one side.
All three whorls have a cream / dark brown rough patina.
Spindly whorls are common detectorist finds and range in date through from the Iron Age to the post medieval period. Both the diameter of the central perforation and the decoration on the whorls can be used to help identify their period. It is not possible to date these finds, however they are likely to be post medieval in date, and bear resemblances to similar post medieval whorls (Bailey 200, 79-80).
