An incomplete Medieval - Post Medieval crudely cast, lead alloy uniface token of Powell type 1.

The token would have been roughly circular in plan but is now broken in half such that it is semi-circular. It is sub-rectangular in cross section and uniface. One side has very fine abraded decoration made of raised lines forming what would have been a petalled flower. Each petal is a pointed oval formed of two convex lines. The petals inner point meet at the centre of the token. This classes as a Powell type 1 design.

The token is mottled medium brown colour and is chipped on all its edges.

The token would have had a diameter of 25.0mm in diameter, it is now 16.5mm wide, 1.6mm thick and weighs 2.86 grams.

Lead tokens had a wide variety of potential uses such as tallies, gaming pieces, tickets, weights, etc. and are believed to have been locally produced; they are therefore difficult to date precisely. There are numerous tokens with a similar design on the database e.g. SOM-EF84EC, IOW-0AAB63 and WMID-8D1468.
