A fabricator of uncertain date but most probably from the late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age date. The fabricator is formed on a triangular sectioned rod of knapped flint - which is a mid-grey colour with an area of off white chalk derived cortex on one area - this cortex could also act as a textured holding point which would aid grip during use. The ventral face shows clear conchoidal ripples and a small striking platform is present on the distal terminal of the ventral face. Both long edges of the dorsal face have been retouched and both exhibit significant ground pressure damage on the cutting edge from use.
Dr Kevin Leahy states 'fabricators are difficult to date and a wide range must be suggested.' Therefore, a date of Early Mesolithic to late Bronze Age 10000 BC to 800 BC. From the assemblage this is from it is likely to be fashioned in the Neolithic period.
The fabricator measures: Length: 67.18mm, Width: 18.85mm, Thickness: 11.69mm, Weight: 15.6 grams
