A large cast copper alloy late medieval "lyre shaped" strap end. There is a small integrally cast hollow plate with two rivet holes marked with rust from now lost iron rivets at the rear; the front is decorated with an incised grid of alternating squares which are plain and infilled with fine wave patterns. The frame is large, 28.6mm in length and sub-triangular, with decorative curlicues on the outside and sides which are incurved to meet at a central openwork fleur-de-lys. The surface shows evidence of having ben tinned. Circa 15th century.
