A cast lead artefact, probably a perforated weight, perhaps for a line or net, of Medieval or post-Medieval date, about AD 1100 - 1800. It is 37.6mm long 14.1mm wide and 7.6mm thick. It weighs 35.55g. It is in the form of a rectangle in plan, with a pointed end. It is rectangular in cross-section and has flat faces. There is a sub-circular sub-conical perforation in the pointed end. There are some grooves in the sides; nicks across the corners, probably the result of damage post-deposition in the soil. It has a cream patina. The mass is not obviously a weight in any of the common systems of measurement, so this weight is likely to have been used to weigh something down rather than for measuring.
