A silver cut half of a voided long cross penny of Henry III (1216-1272), Class 3b or 3c (1248-1250), struck at the Newcastle mint. The moneyer's name is not present, but the men operating from the Newcastle mint at the time of Class III were Roger, Adam, Henri and Ion (North, 1994, Vol.1, p.226, nos.987-988) and there is room for 5 letters so the moneyer is either Roger or Henri. The obverse is cut vertically through the crowned head, but the star initial mark is visible above the central fleur of the crown. There is a apostrophe after the numerals III and a stop before it but not a colon. There is no sceptre.
