A copper-alloy fragment of a Roman amphora-shaped strap end, dating to AD 350-410. It is flat and leaf-shaped in plan; it lacks of the upper part. The front face is decorated with a central double-ring-and-dot motif; it tapers towards a knopped terminal. The back face is undecorated. The surfaces are worn and the lower part is slightly bent forwards.
These kind of strap-ends formed part of the equipment of the regular Roman soldier serving on the frontiers in the second half of the fourth century. Cf. Simpson (1976, pp. 198-200).
