A post-medieval silver Portuguese 40 reis piece (pataco) or 50 reis piece (half tostao) of Peter II, John V or Joseph I and dating to 1683-1777. The coin is a brockage, the inverse of the reverse visible to the 'obverse'. The reverse depicts a worn plain cross with the legend .IN.HOC.SIGNO.VINCES. ('in this sign you will conquer') around.
