A Medieval copper alloy mount, probably dating to c. AD 1200-1400. The mount consists of a quatrefoil plate with small points projecting from between each lobe, an integral rivet projects from the reverse; square in cross section. The front of the plate is decorated with a depicting of three lions passant guardant within a square topped shield, with foliate motifs filling the space between the shield and the edge. The decoration is reserved against a recessed field, although no enamel survives.
Length 32.3mm; Width 33.3mm; Thickness 19.7mm; weight 13.34g.
cf. Ashley (2002: 21-22) nos. 215 & 22, for the same form and design, but on a harness pendant and a mount of the same quatrefoilate form.
