Copper alloy brooch. Cast trumpet brooch, Mackreth type TR x2.b. A plain head masks a tubular case for an axis bar which retains a hinged pin. The upper bow is plain. Mid-bow decoration does not pass all around the bow, and comprises a moulding and three claws or petals above and below a central disc. The lower bow also appears plain, and is tapered, with the stub of a catch plate behind it. A brooch of this type was dated to 140-160 at Rudston, East Yorkshire. Suggested date: Early Roman, 140-160
