MOUNT

Unique ID: DEV-A8CB07

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete copper alloy possible livery badge, strap mount or belt fitting of probable Later Medieval to Post-Medieval date, c. AD 1400-1800.

The object is formed in the shape of an arrowhead of possibly a variation on a cross. It has a long shank, which is broken at its terminal end, although the remains of a voided area survive in the form of a single slender stem which is incorporated into the shank itself, and would probably have been paralleled on the other side. The shank narrows slightly before broadening into wide horizontal barbs with rounded ends. From the end of the barbs the object tapers sharply to its angled point, which is now broken. On the reverse is an integral pyramidal rivet, but it is otherwise undecorated. There is a very small triangular fragment of gilding which survives on the outer surface.

It may be related to objects like NMS-ADC5CD, HESH-DFC0C4 and SOM-481011, although this item appears more slender and the point of the arrow is at a different angle so this is speculative.
