Description of find
The find comprises one gold and ten silver medieval English coins, of the reigns of Edward I-II (3), Edward III (2), Henry V (1) and Henry VI (5) (see appended Schedule).
Metal content
English silver coins of the 14th-15th centuries are typically of silver of high fineness, in excess of 90% Ag by weight. The gold standard is virtually pure precious metal (23ct 3½gr, or 99.5%).
Discussion
The eleven coins are of similar types and in similar condition to those previously recorded from this site. The weights of the silver coins lie between the 60-grain standard of 1412 and the 48-grain standard of Edward IV's 'Light' coinage, introduced in 1465.
From their composition and proximity to the find spot of the three previous finds, the eleven coins considered here may be seen to form a fourth portion of a single deposit, probably dating to the later 1460s, of which a cumulative summary is appended.
