An Iron Age Gallo-Belgic gold stater of the Ambiani. Of 'Gallic War Uniface' type, c.60-50 BC. Gallo-Belgic E (Scheers class III),, ABC 16; VA 50-56.

Obverse: Plain. Reverse: Sinuous horse right, pellet below, pellets above, eye shaped motif behind.

Measurements: 17.78mm in diameter, 3.33mm thick and 6.07g in weight.

Discussion: From BERK-A92065"Known as the 'Gallic War uniface' stater these coins were struck by the Ambiani in northern France almost certainly during the Gallic War [period] (c. 60-50 BC ) and imported into Britain during the late first century BC. These gold coins are frequently found in southern Britain where they circulated in large numbers, and where some [varieties] may also have been produced."
