An incomplete copper alloy Mount of Post Medieval date (AD 1500 -1750). The mount consists of a symmetrical moulded plate with two side knops which then taper into a narrowed waist before flaring about into a second pair of knops and then terminates in a rounded terminal. The front is decorated with a symmetrical foliate design in relief surrounded by a narrow undecorated raised border which follows the shape of the plate. There is a circular rivet hole which retains an iron rivet at the top of the mount. The reverse of the mount is flat and undecorated with a partially retained integral circular rivet.

Mounts of this type are stylistically similar to sword belt fittings of the same period and may be companion pieces (Cf. Read, B, 2001 p. 29 &41, no. 349). Such fittings are rarely found complete, rather elements or broken examples are far more common. However, a complete sword-belt hanger of this type can be seen on this database (ref. WILT-5F9183) and also in illustrated in Geake (2001, fig. 17), with examples of the accompanying M-shaped plates illustrated in Read (2008, 219-220; refs. 790-792). Such fittings 'proliferate in the 16th and 17th centuries' (Geake 2001, 35). Their design and decoration are relatively standardised.
