A hammered silver coin dating from the Medieval period: a cross-and-crosslets type 'Tealby' penny of Henry II (1154-1189) probably Bust C or E dating from AD 1161 - 1170. It has a maximum diameter of 20.40mm and a thickness (it is slightly bent) of 1.77mm. It weighs 1.34g. The coin is creased; it was found bent in two at and acute angle, but not bent double, and has been straightened post-recovery. The coin was probably minted by Robert at Ipswich. See North (1994) Volume 1, number 956 - 960 on page 217.
Obverse portrait has a jewelled collar which continues down the shoulder, while the folds of the mantle rise from the hand to the top of the shoulder; there is a single curl of hair at the crowned temple.
Obverse: HE[N](RI) : R [...] X
Reverse ROB [---] ON: [-].
