An incomplete copper-alloy Trumpet brooch of Roman date, c.AD 75 - 175. The head of the brooch is ovate with a sub-triangular section and flat reverse which retains a double lug hinge mechanism. The pin no longer remains.
An ovate sectioned bow extends from the centre of the front of the head terminating in a worn break. The head is decorated with trumpet coil designs flanking the raised central ridge. The coils retain blue enamel.
The metal has a dark green/brown delaminated patina and is worn. The brooch is 16.3mm long, 15.9mm wide, 13mm thick and weighs 5.8g.
Similar examples are illustrated in Hattatt, p.326, fig.185 and are dated to circa AD 75 - 175.
