A cast lead object possibly a weight of medieval date to early post-Medieval.
Description: The object is roughly heart shaped with a tab between the upper lobes. This tab maybe a casting gate or a warped suspension point. The upper lobe is slightly warped. There is some finishing or casting that leaves it with sloped sides. The object's underlying metal is dark grey but this is mostly covered in white patination.
Measurements: 40.58mm long, 32.56mm wide, 12.25mm thick (including tab) and 48.32g in weight.
Discussion: The exact identity of this object is uncertain and it bears similarities to a number of lead heart shaped weights dating c.1350-1650. That all being said there are a number of early-medieval vessel fittings in lead which have sloped sides. The former ID is most likely but without direct parallels the ID remains tentative.
