Circular lead weight dating from the Roman to the Post-Medieval period, (43-1700). The object is circular in plan and trapezoidal in cross-section. One face is stamped with the Roman numeral I, flanked by two dots; the other face is undecorated. The object has a white patina.
Diameter: 20.9mm; thickness: 8.7mm; weight: 25.4g
Notes:
Lead weights are common throughout the Medieval and Post-Medieval period. Biggs, N. & Withers, P. (2000) note that weights of this type with numerals are consistent with the Roman weight-system as well as the averdepois system, thus they could equally be post medeival in date.
