MOUNT

Unique ID: WMID-9DF4EA

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

An incomplete lead star of Medieval to Post Medieval dating (AD 1400 to AD 1550).

The star has six curving rays, with a raised rib in the centre. Raised pellets are positioned along the edge of each ray. No attachment points are present on the reverse.

It measures 15.7 mm in length, 16.6 mm wide and 3.2 mm thick. It weighs 2.9 g.

Two similar lead stars have been recorded from the same field, FAKL-356B49. Stars of this type were attached, as decoration, to the ceilings of buildings (Egan, 2005, 69-71). The lack of attachment points or holes suggests that they were simply stuck onto wet plaster. These objects are discussed in record LON-D92870.
