A sherd from the rim of a medieval coarseware (MCW) vessel, dating to the period AD 1150-1450. Probably from a large pot. The rim is upright, rectangular in cross-section with a flat upper surface. Only a small fragment of the original rim survives and so the original diameter is unclear. The rim is straight with the body of the vessel flaring inwards just below it. The fabric is hard and coarse and is tempered with moderate fine quartz sand (<1mm) with just one large fragment of flint visible (4mm). The core, margins and surfaces are buff coloured. The breaks are heavily abraded.
