A sherd from the rim of a medieval coarseware (MCW) vessel, dating to the period AD 1150-1450. Probably from a large pot. The rim is upright, rectangular in cross-section with a flat upper surface. The body of the vessel slopes inwards just below it. Only a small percentage of the original rim survives, so the diameter is uncertain. The fabric is hard and fairly coarse and is tempered with moderate fine quartz sand (<1mm) and occasional fragments of soft, chalky white material (<3mm) The core and margins are buff coloured while the outer surface and upper part of the inner surface are dark grey.
