A sherd from the rim of a medieval coarseware (MCW) vessel, dating to the period AD 1150-1450. Probably from a large pot. The rim is upright, rectangular in cross-section with a flat upper surface and inwards curving outer face. Only around 10% of the original rim survives and so the original diameter is unclear. Below the rim the body of the vessel slopes inwards before curving outwards again. The fabric is hard and coarse and is tempered with moderate poorly sorted quartz sand (<3mm), sparse flint (<2mm), sparse white chalky material (<1mm) and one large fragment of burnt organic material n(<7mm). The core, margins and inner surface are buff coloured while the outer surface is a dark grey. The breaks remain fresh.
