A copper alloy thimble dating from the post medieval period, about AD 1520 - 1600. It was probably made in Nuremberg and is cast. It has a plain basal band with a single groove, and oval or D shaped punched pits arranged in a right-hand spiral over the sides and crown. There is a maker's mark at the start of the spiral, which looks like an asymmetrical saltire cross in a shield shaped cartouche. The mark does not appear to match any of the illustrations on page 39 of Read (2018), but number 157 is perhaps the most similar. The object has a height of 18.28mm, and a diameter (across its base) of 16.74mm. It weighs 5.63g.
