A shield shaped, cast lead trade weight dating from the Medieval period, about AD 1350 - 1500. The upper face is decorated with a moulded fleur-de-lys in a raised border. It is 73.7mm long, 60.2mm wide and 19mm thick. It weighs 516g. This seems to be an unusual mass, given that it is more than any posited 1lb mass. It could have been intended as a one and a quarter pound weight. Compare IOW-DB42D5 for another unusually heavy weight, and SWYOR-7A7972 for the general style.
Similar weights are discussed and illustrated in Biggs and Withers, 2000, Lead Weights: The David Rogers Collection, pages 34 - 40, and see page 302 of The Medieval Household.
