A body sherd of Roman ceramic colour coated vessel, probably of New Forest Ware (AD c. 300-c. 370 ).

The fabric is hard and off-white/grey with poorly sorted soft dark grey inclusions. The exterior is matt grey and had two parallel circumferential grooves mid-way down the height of the sherd. The breaks are worn.

The sherd is from close to the rim and it is too small to ascertain its diameter accurately.

This sherd is worn but in good condition.

Length: 40.0mm; width: 33.7mm; thickness: 5.3mm. Weight: 9.25g.

This sherd may have belonged to a flask as published by Fulford 1975: 43-46, figs. 8 and 9.
