A probable copper alloy hour-glass type candle holder of Roman date. The surviving section includes the central stem, which has a single disc or flange at the mid-point, and parts of the two symmetrical cups. The probable stub of a pricket is visible in the centre of one of the cups.
In its current state it measures 35.2mm in maximum height and 33.2mm in maximum width. It weighs 18.1g.
Another example of an hour-glass type candle holder has been recorded on the PAS database as DENO-E13701, and other parallels are discussed within this record. Candle holders of this type are believed to date from the 2nd century AD, into the 3rd (Eckardt 2002, 260).
