An incomplete, copper alloy Roman brooch of the T-shaped type, probably a sawfish variety, dating from the first or second century, AD 43 - 200. The bow is decorated with a moulded design consisting of two rows of deep triangular cells containing traces of red enamel, flanking a row of eight lozenge shaped areas in reserved metal, reducing in size towards a rounded foot set at an angle to the end of the bow, projecting forwards. The panel is flanked at each side by a narrow, longitudinal groove. On the shoulder of the bow is a longitudinal ridge or crest. It is damaged, but appears to have had a small circular hole through it. The wings are tubular and each is decorated with a single, transverse groove at the outer ends. The wings have a seam along the reverse, and contain the remains of a copper alloy pin bar. They are divided by a transverse groove to take a hinged pin, which is now missing. The brooch has a smooth, dark brown patina. The length is 38.2mm, the width of the wings is 22.9mm and the overall thickness is 12.2mm. The thickness of the wings 4.9mm, and the thickness of the bow is 2.4mm. It weighs 8.42g. .

A similar brooch is illusrated in Hattat, 2000, A Visual Catalogue of Richard Hattats Ancient Brooches figure 163, number 411. Compare also LEIC-1E7ED6.
