A complete and pierced post-medieval Scottish silver half groat of Charles I (AD 1625-1649), dating to AD 1637-1642. Third coinage.

Obverse: [CAR D] G SCOT ANG FR ET HIB R; crowned bust left, XX mark of value behind.

Reverse:[I]VSTITIA THRONVM FIRMAT; Crowned thistle. Spink (2003: 84), no. 5591.

The coin has been pierced with a circular hole, 2.1mm in diameter at 3 o' clock on the obverse, possibly as an act of devaluation during the Civil War. IOW-41FF57 is a similar example.
