A complete cast lead weight or spindle whorl of unknown period.
The object is circular in shape with a central circular perforation measuring about 7.76mm in diameter. It was very crudely formed and is slightly domed in one area and thin on one edge. It is unclear if this was used generally as a weight, or specifically as a spindle whorl. Walton Rogers (1997, 1731) notes that Iron Age and Roman period whorls have a perforation that ranges from 4-8mm in diameter, whereas Late Anglo-Saxon and medieval whorls have a larger perforation measuring 9-11mm. Therefore, if it was used as a spindle-whorl then it may date to the Iron Age/ Roman period.
