Lower Palaeolithic core knapped from a bunter cobble from the Triassic period. The core is an irregular shape and has had flakes removed from multiple faces. Eight flakes have been removed revealing a mid brown-grey colour with an external surface being a mid brown colour. The edges of the scars are still fresh, suggesting it has not been rolled or weathered. There are two parallel larger scars which provides the striking platform for at least four others scars which are therefore perpendicular to the larger scar forming the striking platform. At the proximal end of the larger scars, on the opposite face there are at least three other scars forming a triangular sectioned edge.

In the centre of the unworked surface there is a hammerstone mark, which may have been testing the quality of the cobble. There is a second hammerstone mark at the edge of the flake removal.

The core measures 115.54mm long, 79.61mm wide, 55.71mm thick and weighs 594g.

The object has been identified as a core rather than a chopper as more than 50% of the surface of the cobble has flake removal occurring, although that is not to say it was not used as a tool as well.

Dating the core is difficult as the area it was found in is on the edge of three glacial zones MIS 10, 8 and 6 and may be pre-Anglian stage, therefore there is a broad date range of 480,000 BC to c. 193,000 BC.
