A small damaged possible polished flint axehead. The object is sub-rectangular in plan and pointed oval in section. The head of the axe flares to the cutting edge, which curves outwards. The cutting edge is damaged with c. 40 % remaining and there is also an abrupt transverse break across the butt end. There are scratches on the surface on both sides of the axehead. Invasive retouch can be seen on the surface on each side, along the edges and across the blade end. This may suggest that the axe was modified at some point and possibly reused. The flint is a mid-grey in colour with patches of black and lighter grey.
The original polished axehead would probably date to the Neolithic period (c. 4000-2550 BC), however the retouch and reuse could have occurred as late as the Bronze Age c. 4000-800 BC.
It measures 41.29 in length, from 41.89 mm (max) to 32.85 (butt end) mm in width, 17.94 in thickness and weighs 30.52 g.
